Reinfections Study

About PLRC
Patient-Led Research Collaborative (PLRC) is a multi-disciplinary group of scientific and
academic researchers, and people with lived experience of Long COVID, formed together in
April 2020 through the Body Politic COVID-19 Support Group, who were the first to conduct
research on Long COVID. PLRC’s work thus far has resulted in the identification of key
symptoms, comorbidities, and possible treatment options for Long COVID. They have
presented their work to the World Health Organization, United States House of
Representatives, National Institutes of Health, and Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention, and have influenced Long COVID clinical guidelines and legislation. For more on

and conduct studies on Long COVID and one of the studies is a reinfection study.

Reinfection Study
People are frequently contracting COVID more than once; however, the health impact of
multiple COVID infections is not understood. Although people who recovered fully from
their first COVID infection could be vulnerable to long COVID if they become reinfected, the
likelihood of this occurring is not known. PLRC, with funding from Balvi, is leading a
research study to understand the consequences of COVID-19 reinfections.
We are interested in understanding how reinfections impact those who did not develop
long COVID following their first infection and whether COVID reinfections increase the
likelihood of Long COVID. For this research, we would like to conduct a study using a
longitudinal cohort design. This longitudinal cohort study would allow PLRC to track the
impact of COVID-19 reinfections on the health of participants over time.
PLRC is seeking collaborators to partner with to run this study on an existing cohort or a
cohort which can be easily followed over the following year.

The Ideal Collaborator
The ideal collaborator is Interested in working with PLRC and has access or is part of a
cohort which has the following characteristics:

• Led, run, and composed of minority group & communities.
• Has infrastructure to follow up with participants and resources at least 2 times, over
  the course of a year.
• Has access to a large community of motivated participants
